But what if your metrics – or your improvements for that matter – are focused in the wrong areas of the business? Setting up metrics and performance measurements is a critical part of any operational or organizational change effort, but what we think will happen and what sometimes happens are not always the same thing. The same can be said of metrics applied without the proper context – is the leadership team celebrating or lamenting artificial dynamics? Project leaders have a responsibility to ensure that their metrics keep the team focused in the right areas and that they accurately communicate the status of the effort.
